On our last trip to Chicago we decided to try Weber Grill Restaurant on the corner of State and Grand. I didn’t even know such a place existed and loved the restaurant concept.
As we waited to be seated I noticed an interesting trend. Several beleaguered-looking dads entering Weber Grill Restaurant with their smiling American Girl doll carrying daughters. I know that look. I think they all needed to get their grill on after spending several hours at the American Girl store on Michigan Avenue. Maybe American Girl and Weber Grill should make some sort mutually beneficial arrangement? After all, a dad full of grilled meat and Smokey Joe martinis is probably okay with spending a little more time and money at American Girl!
Once we were seated we were served by two friendly waiters who presented us with a basket of soft pretzel bread rolls. I don’t have a picture because they were gone ridiculously fast. So fast.
Our entrees were a sight to behold as long as you like perfectly grilled meat. I chose the BBQ Sandwich minis consisting of Pulled Pork, BBQ meatloaf and Slow Smoked Chopped Beef Brisket. They were served on the same pretzel roll buns as the bread basket so I am glad I restrained myself with the first offering of rolls. I also ordered a side of the Smoked Bacon & Cabot White Cheddar Mac N’ Cheese served in a cast iron skillet because I pretty much sample all mac and cheeses that are offered anywhere.
The other entrees we ordered were the Classic Kettle Burger, BBQ Beef Brisket and a combo of Hickory BBQ Ribs and BBQ Quarter Chicken. We also tried a refreshing Passion Fruit iced tea that ended up being a big hit at our table.
I really wanted to try the S’mores Molten Chocolate Cake but I was simply too full to consider it. I will have to put that on my list of things to try making myself – although I draw the line at homemade graham crackers. That is not happening!
Overall, we had excellent service and food. They even brought us warm washcloths to wash our hands with at the end of our meal. The environment was both family-friendly and also a little more hoppin’ in the bar area. You can’t go wrong giving Weber Grill Restaurant a try next time you are in downtown Chicago.
