Recently we had a new garden shed installed in part of our backyard. Once the installation was done we needed to focus on organizing our new garden shed. One of the great things about these types of renovations is that it forces you to reevaluate what you own, what you want to keep and how to store them. The purging wasn’t too extreme as we have been good about not buying items we don’t actually need for the house and yard. Most of the outdoor items we buy are replacements for things that have broken.
At any rate we now have this clean, new shiny shed and want to store our tools properly. My husband did some research, evaluated what he thought we would need and then bought components from a storage system from Rubbermaid called FastTrack. The FastTrack system consists of a sturdy metal railing with plastic cover and a variety of hanging hooks and racks for any need you could possibly have. I am really impressed with its simplicity, durability and ease of use. The pieces are sold individually or in kits and the rails come in different lengths.

Installing the Rubbermaid FastTrack System:
In a short while we had the rails up in the shed and we were ready to figure out where things should hang. In this process, my only request was an easy-to-access basket to store my small gardening items in. The beauty of the FastTrack system is that the hooks, holders and racks are sturdy and lock and unlock for easy adjustments to your plan. At first we had a few hooks we thought we would need, but after the rails were up we made some changes to the layout and exchanged them at the store for different types of hooks. Easy peasy.
Our system took just a few hours to put up (including another trip to the store). It is best to have two people in the process but this is mostly for rail alignment at the beginning.

We love how organized our new garden shed is and I am happy with how we chose to tackle the organization of it. What about you? Do you have any other garden shed storage tips or ideas? Let me know in the comments below.
