Almond Poppy Seed Tea Bread

This Almond Poppy Seed Tea Bread recipe is courtesy of my good friend Megan. It was passed down to her by her mother. It is a lovely addition to any afternoon tea.

Almond Poppy Seed Tea Bread

3 cups flour
½ tsp salt
1 ½ tsp baking powder
2 cups sugar
1 ½ Tbsp Poppy seeds
1 1/2 tsp almond extract
3 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
1 cup + 2 Tbsp oil (light olive)
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

Mix 1-2 minutes then pour into greased and floured loaf pans (3 small or 2 large). Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Cool 5 minutes then remove from pans.

Glaze

¼ cup orange juice
½ tsp almond extract
½ tsp vanilla extract
¾ cup sugar

Stir to dissolve sugar and brush hot bread with glaze on all sides.

Sidenote: I actually ran out of poppy seed while making this! There would be more poppy seeds if I had the right amount left.
